Withdrawal Symptoms When Stopping Smoking: Be Prepared
Withdrawal symptoms when stopping smoking can be quite distressing and unsettling. They can come quite quickly after your last cigarette and many people fail to give up smoking because of these nasty feelings and associated distress.
Be prepared for symptoms of withdrawal and understand that, though they may be unpleasant, they are not serious.
Physical symptoms of withdrawal can start within a few hours after stopping smoking. It is often mild symptoms like these that trigger you to have another cigarette when you are actively smoking. The quick "fix" you feel when having a cigarette serves to stave off the feelings of withdrawal until the next cigarette is taken.
These symptoms may get stronger and stronger without cigarettes abating them and reach a peak after 3 or 4 days. This can be a testing time and be one of the main reasons why people revert to smoking again. Do not fold! Hold on tight and dont panic, as they will then begin to fade over the next several days. After 3 or 4 weeks they should be completely gone perhaps even in less time than this.
Tell yourself, again and again, that not smoking is the best for your body. That last cigarette that you take is the beginning of a new body, a new life and a new you. It really is true. How ever bad you feel when withdrawing, you can rely on the fact that you will be healthier without cigarettes than with them.
And, remember, that there are plenty of things you can do to reduce or even eliminate the unpleasant effects of the withdrawal process.
