What is Candida?
What is Candida and what type of effect does it have on the body? Candida is actually a type of yeast that is found in our bodies naturally. A little bit of Candida is normal and actually considered healthy for your body. But Candidiasis is the common name for the condition which occurs when there is an overproduction of the Candida yeast within the body.
Normal Candida is not anything to be concerned about. This form of yeast occurs naturally within the body at low levels. We have Candida inside all of us- in our mouths and throat, our digestive tracts and in women it is also found in the vagina.
However, when the body is weakened it is more vulnerable to attack. For example, when you have a cold or a medical condition that weakens your immune system it can lower your resistance to other conditions. The body is always working to attack against viruses, bacteria and other conditions that can make us sick.
Overproduction of Candida can often occur when our bodies are weakened already. One of the most common problems caused by an overproduction of Candida is yeast infections. More than 75% of women will experience at least one vaginal yeast infection at some point in their lives. Another condition that is caused by the overproduction of Candida is thrush which can affect men and women alike.
While these common conditions are annoying, they usually only come and go and can easily be treated with medications. These are not however, the symptoms that come from chronic Candidiasis. Chronic overproduction of Candida can cause symptoms such as fatigue, skin infections, abdominal pain and cognitive difficulties.
When you have chronic overproduction of Candida, it changes forms as it develops within the body. It will multiply rapidly and turn into a dangerous fungal state as it spreads throughout the body. This can cause serious problems for the infected person. When not treated, it can turn into things such as Leaky Gut Syndrome.
A chronic problem with Candida can lead to many different problems within the body. In fact, it may be contributed to many more conditions than it was once believed. There are things that you can do to keep your Candida at normal levels and prevent chronic problems from candidiasis. Your diet plays a big role in it as can other conditions. Learn all you can about Candida and how it reacts with the body so you can have optimum health.
