Self-Awareness is a Step Toward Wholeness
Awareness is an essential part of survival. We make a point to be aware of our surroundings, current events, and even things of no real benefit. So why not make it a must to be aware of the inner most part of our being, which would make for a more peaceful, happier and centered existence.
Self-awareness is a very important concept, especially if there are specific goals we are aiming for and challenges we are attempting to overcome. Self-awareness is easily defined as knowing ones self through conducting a complete and honest self evaluation. There are several questions that you should ask yourself to start a self-awareness analysis. You should first ask yourself what triggers your emotions, whether they are positive or negative emotions. It is very important to acknowledge emotions and observe how they impact your body language and verbal reactions. Specific responses may indicate that there are some unresolved issues within you that you need to work on. If you have feelings of jealousy or anger, acknowledge it instead of brushing over it or attributing it to something else. Believe me, the true feelings show in other ways, whether it is through your reaction to the person or body language that follows the feeling.
However, if you make it a point to acknowledge feelings and ask yourself why you feel this way. Then you are more likely, to uncover something about yourself that you either never realized or fought against. The problem with not acknowledging your entire being is that you can not change what you do not acknowledge. Therefore, you remain in a state of denial and develop a facade. A facade is a representation of you that is not accurate and causes one to be untrue, not only to other, but to yourself. Some of us like to think that the problems that occur on the job, in social setting and in relationships are the fault of the other participating parties. Very rarely do we assess our role in these situations and how we could have allowed for a more favorable outcome. It seems to be a little easier to place blame than to take blame.
Discovery of the self is an ongoing and continuous process which, at times, can be painful as hidden aspects are slowly uncovered. However, once the journey has begun you will have more feelings of inner peace, happiness and wholeness. In turn, it will have a positive impact on all aspects of your social and personal interactions.
