MRSA Outbreak - Is It Possible?

I will answer this question in a more roundabout way than I usually do. Let me first start by making you aware of a few occurrences that the majority of the general public is totally ignorant to.

Situation 1

The neo-natal unit of the Royal Blackburn Hospital in Lancashire closed to new admissions last month after six babies tested positive for the bug. The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has said mrsa had colonized the babies, but had not entered their bloodstream, which could have certainly led to death. If it had entered the bloodstream, it could have caused cellulitis (inflammation of layers under the skin) and pus filled abscesses, boils and carbuncles.

Situation 2

Two Calhoun County jail inmates, died from mrsa. Jail officials say, following the guidelines of the Calhoun County Health Department, they are attempting to maximize hygiene, educate all inmates, and totally clean the jail to prevent future infections. This is disease called MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) - a mutated pathogen that invades your body. In some cases the disease causes pneumonia and even death. All inmates and employees were tested for the infection, thankfully no more were found.

Situation 3

A Virginia school student by the name of Ashton Bonds died from the MRSA bacteria while a senior at Staunton River High School in Moneta.

According to new data, Mrsa, short for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is responsible for more deaths in the United States each year than AIDS. All 22 schools in Bedford County were closed for cleaning that week.

Situation 4

A new business under the name of Sanisport, opened its doors. They clean and sanitize anything from sports equipment to furniture to toys. The idea came into being when the son of the owners was infected with mrsa.

Now, after reading the above situations imagine the increase of people living in unhygienic situations, the larger number of students in schools, the increase attention for physical contact and the shortcuts being taken in the health care industry. Think about the increased climate changes the influx of immigrants and with their customs and different standards of hygiene.

So as to answer your question. Yes.
