- 10 Years after quitting: Your lung cancer death rate is about half that of a smokers. Your risk of cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases.
- 15 Years after quitting: Your risk of coronary heart disease is back to that of a nonsmokers.
There is another problem related to quit smoking and that is handling the cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms like cravings to smoke, irritable, cranky insomnia, fatigue, inability to concentrate, headache, cough, sore throat, constipation, gas, stomach pain, dry mouth, sore tongue and/or gums, postnasal drip, tightness in the chest etc.
There are some easy ways to handle those withdrawal effects, drink a lot of water, relax using deep breathing techniques and do 15 minutes exercise on regular basis.
To handle the nicotine cravings, let me tell you that all types of cravings, no matter how intense it is, will go away within 3-5 minutes. So, when you feel the urge for a smoke, wait for five minutes, take a glass of water, or read a jokeand see how you get over your nicotine cravings.
