How Color Helps You Look Your Personal Best

Here is how you can enhance your appearance and look your personal best with color. Look at your skin tone, take a moment and really look at your complexion in the mirror. Notice the color of your skin, hair and eyes.

If you have a selection of scarves on hand, in different colors, pay attention to how each color works with your complexion. Hold different scarves against your face, preferably around the neckline and notice the effect of color against your skin. Remember, the trick is to find which dominant color type you are. Are you light, deep, warm, cool, soft or clear? Its all about being able to identify which colors help you look your personal best starting with the undertone (warm/cool color), depth (light/dark color) and clarity (bright/muted color) of color against your skin.

Some colors will illuminate the skin causing the skin to glow while other colors create dark shadows. Although not all colors will look equally good on you, try wearing color as an accessory instead.

Find your best colors and stick with them. Colors do not lie and after you figure out your primary dominate color, identify your secondary color. This is a great starting point knowing yourself better with color against your skin. In fact, its a little secret used in determining your best seasonal colors.

Your personality is a consideration when choosing color. Bright, stimulating colors are appropriate if you are outgoing and energetic. However, if you are more reserved, wear soft, subdued colors. Even with softer colors, you can still accent them with livelier ones.

Here are four key points to consider when choosing colors:

1. Light or bright colors make you appear larger.

2. Dark or dull colors make you appear smaller.

3. Bright colors in rough textures enhance skin blemishes.

4. Bright colors in large amounts tire quickly.

Clothing is a powerful expression of your personality. The clothes you wear reveal much about how you think you look. Your physical appearance, words and your actions express the person you are on the inside. You can change your image to accentuate your strong points and camouflage weak points.

How you dress lets you express who you are. Your image can help you reach your professional goals too. How? Consider this: When you change your outward appearance, you act different. If your clothing is unattractive, you tend to withdraw. However, you outwardly demonstrate confidence in attractive colors and clothing.

Once you have mastered the art of color, plan your wardrobe around your primary and secondary dominant colors. Using these colors makes mixing and matching clothes and accessories easier. You can increase the number of outfits you wear without actually increasing the number of garments you own. Life is about simplifying, so apply this strategy to your wardrobe and reap the benefits of everyday living with ease and comfort looking your personal best.
