There is a difference between earned ego and arrogance. Earned Ego is a term I coined when I got tired of folks who lacked performance telling me I was over confident or arrogant. You may use the "Earned Ego" phrase to describe this scenario and I hereby release all copyright to it. Many people say it is a fabulous phrase and they want to steal it. Fine be my guest.

The reason I made that up "Earned Ego" is from my many years in racing. In motorcycle racing guys would sit out before the race and brag, but all the BS in the world does not mean squat when you are racing. Talk is cheap - everyone knows the truth no matter what excuse you give, everyone can make an excuse.

Everyone has them, question is do you have the strength of character to go the long haul, that is what I want to know. How mentally tough are you. You have got the spirit yes you do! Now how about the rest? You are welcome to use the "Earned Ego" thing if you want too. I really fear leaders who have an unearned ego, I have trouble following such and I can spot the fake ego and sense weakness a mile away.

Earned Ego comes from knowing self, and your competition or challenge. In a 100 battles you will prevail. If you cannot self-evaluate you and if you do not know what you are up against, the outcome is pre-determined no matter how many reciprocal responses you are engaged in. Make sure that you ditch the arrogance motif and earn your ego. If people notice your self-confidence maybe it is because they have an earned ego too?
