When you find yourself with a bout of appendicitis it generally falls into 2 categories, chronic and acute. The Acute appendicitis is the better known form of this illness and generally most people suffer from this kind. The symptoms of acute appendicitis tend to be more pronounced and the symptoms progress rapidly. As we mentioned however the other form of it is quite rare with much more mild symptoms which makes it a difficult proposition to diagnose. Also, compared to acute appendicitis the symptoms seem to crawl along. The only way in which you can effectively diagnose the problem is through abdominal computerized tomography, endoscopy or blood analysis.
This usually results through some form of blockage around the appendix. Some type of bacterial infection is also usually present at the onset. Although research is completely sure, research tends to indicate that the appendix plays some part in digestion. Chronic appendicitis generally involves only a partial blockage in addition to the presence of some type of bacterial infection. As we have discussed this form of it is very hard to diagnose and because of that it can take months before a successful diagnosis.
Chronic appendicitis is a serious from of appendicitis as the length of time for diagnosis. During this time bacteria can in fact spread throughout the bodies internal organs. As there generally no stomach pain with this type of it, this spreading of bacteria can go on undetected which can lead to complications down the road.
With cases of acute appendicitis in most cases you will find that you will have to undergo surgery to remove the appendix. With chronic appendicitis however this is not always the case. If it is caught soon enough then antibiotics may be all that is need to solve the problem. Chronic appendicitis however, is known to reoccur from time to time so the taking of antibiotics may have to be an ongoing form of treatment.
